“Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you
So we say with confidence
The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid
What can mere mortals do to me?”
Today I want to talk about something that we can all deal with. Especially as youth and youth in Christ we have many things that we deal with. We deal with peer pressure, opinions of other people, different people that hold different morals and beliefs. At times we let our own minds take control and then boom! It comes, fear, being afraid of the unknown. What is fear? Fear is anything that we are afraid of, the things that scare us. Fear is also something we feel when we sense danger and at times it can be beneficial for us, like holding on to something so we don’t fall and break our hand. Overall, fear is something we all encounter in our lives but we have the opportunity to speak something different and powerful over those things make us hold on to those fears.
At times fear can take over our lives. We can constantly be thinking too much of what other people say about us or we let our insecurities drive us into a constant cycle of fear questioning whether we are good enough. Fear is also a tool that the enemy can use to make us stay stagnant and not grow to our potential. Whether we are dealing with something uncovered or thoughts of insecurity or anything that is puling us away from our God given purpose, the word of God comes and speaks unto us that, “there is no fear in in love. But perfect love drives out fear” (1 John 4:18 NIV)
When we accept Jesus as our savior we can hold on to his promise said in Hebrews 13, that he would never leave us, that he would help us. As Jesus fulfilled his ministry there were countless amount of times where he told his disciples not to fear, to not be afraid.
We see that there are two types of fear. One that holds us captive and one that allows us to see the Lord in a reverent manner and allows us to see his majesty and holiness. Although we face different situations where fear may want to come and stray us away from God’s purpose, through our faith in Jesus we are able to come close to our Father and let his love work in our lives.
As we grow in our relationship with the Lord, there come times where we choose who we decide to hear. We can choose between our fear or the word of God. There may even come times when we aren’t able to see past those things that hold us captive, where we are so encapsulated by our fears and doubts; but that is where the Holy Spirit comes in and shows us his loving and changing power for our lives. As children of God, changed and given this new identity we are able to come before the throne of God in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
Prayer for today: Lord help us in each step that we take. Take control of our hearts, our minds and through your word and Holy Spirit help us walk in confidence that you love us; that we are sons and daughters of the Most High. Although fear and doubt fill our minds let your love pour out over us and into our hearts and wash away all negativity, all doubt, or anything that may want to hinder us from keeping the path with you Lord. Thank you for all that you are and your immense love. We love you Lord and have your way today and always in our lives. Amen!
